Day 33 of My Colon Shutdown… πŸ™„

As a heart transplant recipient, I’m at risk for picking up germs that most people can tolerate. When I do get sick it takes 2-3 times longer to heal than the average person. πŸ™„

Today is Day 33 of a stomach bug I’ve been fighting.

I’ll spare you the gory details, though it should be noted that I’ve been shuttered in my home for most of January. My goal on some days has been to avoid the hospital. Fighting dehydration has been a full time, unpaid job.

It’s also Day 35 of the longest US gov’t shutdown in history. It seems me and Uncle Sam are sick and not functioning properly. πŸ€’πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Good news, today I finally learned the culprit is Norovirus! You know, the bug that has crippled cruise ships, daycares and shut down hospital wards all across the UK in 2018. It seems this virus lingers around on surfaces for a long time and then you touch your face… and bam! This is why I wear a mask at all schools, medical facilities and public transportation. Clearly, this didn’t work for me this time! However, today was a good day and I can say I’m on the mend, thanks to nourishment from those around me.*

Other good news today is that the US gov’t Shutdown is temporarily over for 3 weeks, at least.

It’s a start for both of us.

We’re not out of the woods yet… as the Joker said in Batman: “This town needs an enema!”

So with that said, I’m having a colonoscopy and endoscopy to find the source of infection and to look at my stomach ulcer (I’ve had anemia for a couple of years now). I take a truckload of medications, which caused the ulcer. I also take medication to manage the side effects of other medications, go figure. This sounds as convoluted as current Washington politics!

So while I get my shit together, so too does the US gov’t. I just hope with enough moral fiber that we can both return to a normal functioning set of bowels. πŸ’©

Me on a Good Day! #anewheartrocks
Me on a good day! I had fun at this germ infested interactive art installation. I will say getting in and out of that tub was a mixture of slapstick, physical comedy and distress. The plastic tub eventually fell over and I spilled onto the floor, surrounded by plastic bubbles! It was kinda funny, kinda not. 😜
After 5 consecutive days in my PJs, I left the house and went to the bar. I brought my own Pedialyte (and of course, my diabetic kit and meds).
Chicken Soup for my Soul

  1. My goodness, Jenny, always fighting something, poor honey. It was nice to see you in such a colorful place, looked like fun. And your comment about the bathtub had me easily imagine the scene…there is no way I could have gotten out any other way than you didπŸ˜‚. Keep that positive attitude, honey…love you and AdamπŸ’•
